The Committee undertook a scrutiny, policy development and consultation role with respect to the Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs and played a key role in the consideration and development of legislation.

The Committee for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs held its final meeting of the 2016-2017 Mandate on 19 January 2017.The Northern Ireland Assembly and its committees were dissolved on 26 January 2017 in preparation for the Northern Ireland Assembly elections on 2 March 2017.
