New Committee Chair Gets Stuck Into Environment Issues
Session: 2011/2012
Date: 26 May 2011
Reference: ENV 01/11/12
Keen to get immersed in environmental issues as quickly as possible the new Chair of the Northern Ireland Assembly Environment Committee, Anna Lo MLA, took the opportunity to meet with visiting US environmental policy maker, Frances Dubrowski [1] today.
Committee Chairperson, Anna Lo said: " Ms Dubrowski advises US government agencies on environmental issues and provides advice to NGOs on how to lobby for better legislation.
"As the new Committee begins to look at its agenda for the next 4 years, I was particularly interested to hear about Ms Dubrowski's views on the US Climate Change Bill and on the costs of reducing carbon emissions. It was also very useful to draw comparisons between the US and European processes for developing environmental legislation.
"Environmental issues are very important – the protection of our land, wildlife and natural habitats for the future is something we must work to maintain. We look forward to working with the new Minister and his Department in providing the right policies and legislation for Northern Ireland."
