The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Regional Development has welcomed an announcement by Regional Development Minister, Mr Danny Kennedy, MLA that he will introduce new measures to reduce the number of serious road traffic accidents that have occurred on the A4 dual carriageway since it opened.

Speaking on behalf of the Committee, Chairperson Jimmy Spratt MLA, said: “The Committee for Regional Development recently expressed grave concern at the number of accidents that have occurred on the A4 dual carriageway, particularly those incidents where vehicles have entered the carriageway and travelled in the wrong direction.

“The Committee welcomes the Minister’s announcement on new measures to be deployed in the Dungannon area of the A4, and hopes that these measures will ensure reduction of the likelihood of serious incidents in the area.

“The Committee takes the reduction of incidents on the strategic roads network very seriously and will continue to press the Department on such issues, particularly where safety becomes an issue due to inappropriate signage.”
