Committee Ready for Challenges Ahead
Session: 2011/2012
Date: 22 June 2011
Reference: CRD 02/11/12
The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Regional Development welcomed the Minister for Regional Development, Mr Danny Kennedy MLA as he briefed the Committee for the first time in the new Mandate on key issues.
Speaking on behalf of the Committee after the meeting, the Committee Chairperson Jimmy Spratt MLA said: “Regional development encompasses issues from water and sewerage to transport infrastructure and regional planning. These are the bread and butter issues which affect everyday life for people in Northern Ireland.
“The devastation experienced by so many people during the freezing weather and subsequent thaw is fresh in everyone’s mind. The governance issues at Northern Ireland Water are not forgotten. The concerns around integration of our road and public transport networks are all too real.
“Reduced levels of public expenditure will undoubtedly have an impact but this Committee will strive to ensure that the people of Northern Ireland can expect high quality, value for money services.
“The Committee is in no doubt about the challenges ahead and is committed to working with the Minister and the Department in tackling those challenges.”
