Assembly Committee to Visit South Down

The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Social Development is to hold a meeting at the Slieve Donard in Newcastle on Thursday, 27 May 2010.

The meeting will focus on the Committee’s final report on the Welfare Reform Bill. This Bill includes important changes to Income Support and Community Care Grants. In a busy agenda, the Committee will also receive a briefing on the new Liquor Licensing Bill which includes proposals to increase late licensing for clubs and enhance police powers to close licensed premises.

Committee Chairperson, Simon Hamilton MLA said: “The Committee is committed to engaging with as many people as possible and coming to Newcastle gives us an excellent chance to talk to local people. Our Committee meetings give us the opportunity to explain our work and highlight the important role that we have in monitoring the work of the Department for Social Development.”

The meeting takes place at the Slieve Donard Hotel on 27 May at 4.45pm. The meeting is open to the public.
