Justice Bill
The Justice Bill was introduced by the Minister of Justice on 17 September 2024. The Bill completed Second Stage on 1 October 2024 and was referred to the Committee for Justice for consideration.
Call for Evidence
As part of the Committee Stage of the Bill the Committee will consider evidence from interested bodies and individuals.
The Committee issued a call for evidence which opened on 7 February 2025 and closed on 4 April 2025.
The Committee will now consider the evidence provided and determine what steps to take next.
Long title of the Bill
A Bill to amend the law about the retention and destruction of fingerprints and DNA profiles under Part 6 of the Police and Criminal Evidence (Northern Ireland) Order 1989; to amend the law about the release of children on bail and about their detention; to permit the use of live links for the exercise of certain police functions; to make other provision in connection with the administration of justice; and for connected purposes.
