Date: 23 February 2024
The Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Edwin Poots MLA, will chair the second sitting of the new (2023 -2025) Youth Assembly in Parliament Buildings on Saturday 24 February 2024.
Members of the 90-strong Youth Assembly were appointed in October 2023 after a randomised selection process to ensure all constituencies, Section 75 groups and other communities were represented. At Saturday’s event, they will take part in a public speaking workshop and group discussions, the day will culminate in a plenary in the Assembly Chamber, chaired by the Speaker.
During the plenary, Members will discuss and debate the top issues affecting children and young people, as identified by over 1,800 young people who responded to the Youth Assembly’s recent Big Youth Survey. Members will then vote to select the three issues that will form the basis for the establishment of the Youth Assembly’s Committees.
