Ulster Bank Must Address Accountability and Proper Compensation, Committees Urge

The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Enterprise, Trade and Investment and the Committee for Finance and Personnel received a briefing today from Ulster Bank officials on what action has been taken following the bank’s system failure earlier this year.

Joint Communiqué from the Inaugural Plenary of the North/South Inter-Parliamentary Association

The North/South Inter-Parliamentary Association which comprises of representatives from all the main political parties of the Northern Ireland Assembly and Houses of the Oireachtas, today concluded its inaugural Plenary in the Seanad Chamber in Leinster House. The establishment of a North/South parliamentary forum was envisaged by the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement and the St Andrew’s Agreement.

North/South Inter-Parliamentary Association Inaugural Meeting

The inaugural meeting of the North/South Inter-Parliamentary Association (NSIPA) will take place in the Seanad Chamber, Leinster House today. NSIPA is a parliamentary association with representatives from the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Houses of the Oireachtas. It will meet twice annually on a rotational basis between the Northern Ireland Assembly and the Houses of the Oireachtas to discuss issues of mutual interest to MLAs, TDs and Senators.

Draconian European Vehicle Testing must not come to Northern Ireland, Committee urges

The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for the Environment is calling on a House of Lords Committee to support its objection to the introduction of proposed new legislation for testing the roadworthiness of vehicles and roadside inspections.

Parliament Buildings Celebrates 80th Anniversary with Bumper Number of Visitors

As Parliament Buildings prepares to mark its 80th anniversary with a special open day this November, William Hay, MLA, Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly today welcomed news that visitor numbers to Parliament Buildings this summer are up by 83% on last year.
