Equality Screening: March 2012 - June 2012

In the period from 1st March to 30th June 2012, the Assembly Commission screened four policies. The policies, their aims and the outcome of the screening exercises are detailed in the table below.

The Secretariat Staff/Member Protocol was devised to provide a fair, equitable and effective means of attempting to resolve a situation of conflict or dispute in which an MLA or a member of Secretariat Staff considers that they have been treated in an inappropriate or unfair manner. The protocol is procedural in nature and will have no impact on equality of opportunity for each of the Section 75 categories. It provides a mechanism for all staff/Members to have their concerns addressed irrespective of religious belief, political opinion or racial group. Consultation was carried out with the Assembly Commission, Secretariat Management Group and TUS. This policy was screened out.

The Employer Supported Volunteering Policy aims to encourage and support staff to make a positive impact on the wider community. Consultation took place with staff and TUS from 27 February until 27 March 2012. Screening did not identify any impacts and so the policy was screened out.

The Health and Wellbeing Strategy aims to help to improve the health and wellbeing of Assembly Secretariat staff by introducing a focussed strategy and action plan. Reasons for absence obtained through the managing attendance policy, including health and disability, were considered when identifying initiatives for inclusion in the action plan. The strategy was consulted on with TUS and all staff from 27 July until 15 August 2011. The policy was screened out.

The Assistance to Study Policy was revised and screened. The policy aims to offer staff the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge. Consultation took place with all staff and TUS from 18 June until 19 July 2012. Screening did not identify any impacts on Section 75 groups, and so was screened out.
