The Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland, commonly referred to as the Northern Ireland Protocol, is part of the Withdrawal Agreement, which set the terms of the UK’s exit from the EU. The protocol and its implementation have been subject to ongoing discussion and negotiation between the EU And the UK .
Information and updates relating to the development of common approaches across the UK in some policy areas that intersect with devolved competence and were previously managed by EU law.
As the UK left the EU, it converted – or “cut and pasted” - the body of existing EU law, as it applied to and in the UK prior to the end of the transition period, into domestic law. The UK government has now introduced a bill which will provide it with all the required provisions that allow for the amendment of retained EU law (REUL) and removal of the special features it has in the UK legal system.
