EU Exit Hub
Synopsis: This hub provides links to a range of information compiled by the Research and Information service (RaISe) relating to the UK exit from the European Union, with specific reference to Northern Ireland. Some of these sections are still under development. Information will be updated on a regular basis.
The transition period, during which EU laws continued to apply in the UK, ended on 31 December 2020. On 1st January 2021, therefore, the Ireland - Northern Ireland Protocol came into force.
Information and updates relating to the development of common approaches across the UK in some policy areas that are currently governed by EU law.
Much of the legislation required to give effect to the UK’s decision to leave the EU will be passed at the UK Parliament. Where this legislation affects devolved competence, the Northern Ireland Assembly may agree to the changes by way of a legislative consent motion. This section provides links to this legislation and associated consent motions.
RaISe produces numerous publications each year on a wide range of topics. This section provides access to publications relating specifically to the subject of Brexit / Brexit Transition and Northern Ireland.
Details of information resources which address the potential impacts of Brexit on Northern Ireland. This section now contains a new Reading List on Brexit Outcomes and Northern Ireland. This List will be updated as appropriate. (Last updated 29 July 2021)
This section is prepared by the NI Assembly EU Affairs Manager and provides access to various UK Government papers, Brexit related legislation, latest developments and news. This content is intended as a helpful resource on Brexit but is not an exhaustive source of information.
The Research Matters blog has been developed by RaISe to provide short, topical articles primarily for MLAs and their support staff, but also for a wider audience. A number of articles have been posted on the subject of Brexit and Northern Ireland.
