Call for Evidence: Adult Protection Bill

Session: Session currently unavailable

Date: 30 July 2025

Reference: Cfh05/24/25

The Assembly’s Committee for Health is seeking written evidence from individuals and organisations on the Adult Protection Bill.

This vital piece of legislation, currently undergoing scrutiny by the Committee, aims to significantly strengthen adult safeguarding provisions in Northern Ireland and establish a robust statutory framework for the protection of adults at risk of harm.

The introduction of this Bill is a direct response to the widely publicised safeguarding failings at Muckamore Abbey Hospital and Dunmurry Manor Care Home.

The Department of Health has developed this Bill with the explicit aim of reviewing and improving existing adult safeguarding policy and placing it on a clear statutory footing bringing the legislation into line with other parts of the UK where similar legislation is already in place.

All evidence received will be carefully considered by the Committee for Health as part of its scrutiny of the Adult Protection Bill. The Committee may invite individuals or organisations who have submitted written evidence to give oral evidence at a future meeting.
