Public Accounts Committee to Suspend Meetings
Session: Session currently unavailable
Date: 19 March 2020
Reference: PAC 01/19/20
The Public Accounts Committee decided at its meeting today to suspend its forthcoming meetings until further notice, in the fight to contain the spread of coronavirus following the Government's latest advice yesterday.
Speaking at PAC today, the Chair, Mr William Humphrey said, “These are unprecedented times in which we have to balance the need for continued scrutiny with the extraordinary circumstances we find ourselves in.
“There is an acute awareness that Government departments are under immense pressure at this time. In line with the Speakers statement yesterday, PAC will review its forward work programme so that we can ensure that the focus is kept on the public health crisis.
“We believe strongly that PAC’s oversight is important but in this crucial period all efforts must be directed to ensuring that public services are focused on dealing with the impact of COVID-19
“The Committee has agreed to put into place arrangements to work remotely and adhere to advice from the Public Health Agency on playing its part in mitigating the effects of COVID-19.”
