The Committee for Infrastructure has welcomed the allocation of £4 million to the York Street Interchange Scheme and the announcement that the scheme development will now go ahead.
Chairperson of the Committee, William Humphrey MLA said: "My Committee is very pleased to see that the Minister has announced that £4 million will now be made available to ensure the development of the York Street scheme. The monies allocated will enable the site to be made construction ready—an important step in this crucial development.
"This scheme, which will replace the existing system, will significantly improve Northern Ireland's most important and congested roads—the Westlink, M2 and M3.
"We understand that funding for the construction phase has not yet been allocated. We hope and believe that such funds must be found for a scheme which will have such a substantial impact on our economy as well as easing the traffic congestion on this important route.
"The contribution of the York Street Interchange Scheme will be good for Belfast citizens, commuters, city business and tourism."
