Committee for Infrastructure to hear from Youth Assembly on Graduated Driver Licensing

Session: Session currently unavailable

Date: 23 March 2026

The Committee for Infrastructure will meet this week to continue its scrutiny of key policy areas within the Department for Infrastructure, with a particular focus on Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) and its potential introduction in Northern Ireland.

A highlight of this week’s meeting will be the appearance of representatives from the Northern Ireland Youth Assembly, who will outline the views and experiences of young people on road safety and the proposed GDL system.

The Committee has been closely monitoring developments in this area given its significance in reducing collisions involving young and novice drivers, and will consider the next steps required to advance the proposals.

The Committee will also hear from the Association of British Insurers, the Driving Instructors Association and the Northern Ireland Approved Instructors Council.
