Assembly Committee to Hear From Human Rights Commission and Law Society Ni on the Inquiry and Redress Scheme Bill

Five more organisations will give evidence to the Assembly's Committee for the Executive Office this week as it continues its work on the Inquiry (Mother and Baby Institutions, Magdalene Laundries and Workhouses) and Redress Scheme Bill.

The Bill, which was introduced to the Assembly in June, will see the establishment of a formal Inquiry into these institutions in Northern Ireland between 1922-1995 and will also set up a Redress Scheme for the victims and survivors.

During the meeting on Wednesday afternoon, Members will hear from the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission, The Law Society NI and the Independent Panel Truth Recovery NI. They will also receive briefings from two Belfast legal firms, KRW Law and Phoenix Law which are representing some victims and survivors of mother and baby institutions, Magdalene laundries and workhouses in Northern Ireland.
