Education Committee to Receive Briefings on Restrictive Practices, Seclusion and Restraint

At its meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, 24 February 2021, the Assembly Committee for Education will receive briefings from Departmental officials and from Parent Action on restrictive practice, seclusion and restraint in a school/educational environment. Restraint is holding a child or young person to stop them from moving, while seclusion means placing a child somewhere alone and not allowing them to leave.
The Committee will also consider a briefing in closed session, from the Assembly Research and Information Service on The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), to include information on restraint and seclusion.
