Condolences and Tributes to the Former deputy First Minister, Seamus Mallon

The Northern Ireland Assembly will reconvene today, Monday 27 January 2020, at 4.30pm in the Assembly Chamber to pay tribute to the former deputy First Minister, Seamus Mallon.

The Speaker will open proceedings by making a short statement. He will then invite the leaders of the political parties to pay their tributes. The Speaker will then invite any Member who wishes to make a contribution to do so. Party leaders present will be invited to speak for up to five minutes. The Speaker will then call Members as they rise in their places to speak for up to three minutes in order to give time for as many contributions as possible.

After approximately 60 minutes, the Speaker will suspend the sitting and lead the party leaders out of the Assembly Chamber, through the Assembly Rotunda and into the Great Hall to open and sign a book of condolence.

The Book of Condolence will remain open to Members and staff to sign until 30 minutes after the House rises. From Tuesday 28 to Friday 31 January, the Book of Condolence will be open to all building users and to the public from 10am to 4 pm.
