The meeting started at 10.06 a.m. in public session.

2. Draft Minutes

Agreed: The Committee agreed the minutes of the meeting held on 11 September 2024.

3. Chairperson’s Business

The Chairperson updated the Committee on a meeting that she  and the Deputy Chairperson held  with the Speaker on 17 September 2024,  to discuss proxy voting for parental leave in Plenary,  progress on the Committee’s other priority areas of work and future areas of work for the Committee.

The Committee noted the record of the meeting.

4. Matters Arising

None.

5. Research Paper on Electronic Voting in Parliamentary Chambers

The Chairperson welcomed Ray McCaffrey, Assembly Research Officer, to the Committee.

Trevor Clarke joined the meeting at 10.20 a.m.

Mr McCaffrey provided an overview of a research paper on electronic voting in parliamentary chambers.

Robbie Butler joined the meeting at 10.38 a.m.

This was followed by a question and answer session.

The Chairperson thanked Mr McCaffrey and he left the meeting.

Cara Hunter left the meeting at 10.42 a.m.

6. Correspondence

The Committee noted correspondence from Gerry Carroll MLA, on a potential review of Assembly oral questions.

7. Forward Work Programme

The Committee considered an updated Forward Work Programme for September to December 2024.

The Chairperson reminded the Committee that an informal briefing in the Assembly Chamber on the recently installed infrastructure and the potential to support electronic voting in plenary sittings would take place at the end of this meeting followed by an informal meeting to review the Committee’s strategic priority areas of work.

Agreed: The Committee agreed the Forward Work Programme.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 9 October 2024 at 10.00 a.m. in Room 21, Parliament Buildings.
