Criminal Justice (Sentencing etc) Bill: scrutinising key “public purse” implications

This Review of Costs aims to support Northern Ireland Assembly Members in their plenary, committee and constituency capacities, when scrutinising key potential implications for the “public purse”, if the Criminal Justice (Sentencing etc) Bill would be enacted as introduced. It relies on the Bill’s accompanying Explanatory and Financial Memorandum and other relevant sources; and should be read in conjunction with RaISe Bill Paper NIAR 65-2026 (dated 11 May 2026), addressing the Bill’s underlying policy.

This Bill Paper has been prepared by the Assembly’s Research and Information Service (RaISe) to provide an overview of the Criminal Justice (Sentencing etc) Bill. Rapid Literature Review: Domestic Abuse in Private Family Law Proceedings

This rapid literature review was commissioned by the Northern Ireland Assembly’s Justice Committee. The paper provides an overview of the academic research relating to domestic abuse experienced by adult and child victims/survivors engaged in the family court system. This paper contains references to topics some readers may find distressing, including the impact of domestic abuse.
