The Housing (Amendment) Bill was introduced by Colm Gildernew MLA on 30 June 2026.

The Bill seeks to amend Article 3(6) of the Housing (Northern Ireland) Order 1988 by extending the period during which a person is considered to be threatened with homelessness from 28 days to 60 days, allowing earlier intervention and support for households at risk of becoming homeless.

The Bill passed Second Stage on Monday 21 September and Committee Stage of the Bill commenced on Tuesday 22 September 2026.
