Measuring the Performance of Museums in Northern Ireland

Synopsis: This paper provides an overview of the museums sector in Northern Ireland, including some of the measures used to indicate performance. Some comparisons are made with museums elsewhere in the UK and Ireland. Details of the distribution and type of museums is provided, along with a summary of the different kinds of collections which they hold. Visitor numbers, contribution to educational initiatives and economic performance are also examined.
