Northern Ireland Assembly Commission
Disability Action Plan 2016-21
Under Section 49A of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA 1995) (as amended by Article 5 of the Disability Discrimination (Northern Ireland) Order 2006), the Northern Ireland Assembly Commission is required to have due regard to:
- the need to promote positive attitudes towards people with disabilities; and
- the need to encourage participation by people with disabilities in public life (‘the disability duties’).
Section 49B of this Act places a duty on the Assembly Commission to prepare a plan outlining how it proposes to fulfil the Section 49A duty outlined above.
Following public consultation, the Assembly Commission has approved a final action plan, which is available here.
