Public Asked to Give Views on the Assembly and Executive Reform (Assembly Opposition) Bill

The Assembly and Executive Review Committee has announced the beginning of its scrutiny of the Assembly and Executive Reform (Assembly Opposition) Bill. The Private Members’ Bill, introduced by John McCallister MLA, sets as its principal objective the formation of an official Opposition in the Assembly.

More Women in Politics a must, says Assembly Committee
The report ‘Women in Politics and the Northern Ireland Assembly’ includes a number of recommendations to make the political landscape a more welcoming place for women. The report also sets out ways of encouraging greater participation at both local and national levels and in public life in general.

Committee Report on Ministerial Appointments Receives Assembly Support

The Northern Ireland Assembly today debated a report by the Assembly and Executive Review Committee on its review of sections 16A to 16C of the Northern Ireland Act 1998. These sections of the Act set out how appointments to ministerial posts are made, including those of the First and deputy First Minister. Consideration of these sections of the Act was a requirement placed on the Committee by section 29B(1)(a) and (b) of the Northern Ireland Act 1998.
