Question Time: Social Development 18 March 2014

During question time, the Minister for Social Development Nelson McCausland MLA responded to questions on social housing; Fuel Poverty Action Group; Transfer of Functions to Councils; Ballymoney Master Plan; Boiler Replacement Scheme; Underoccupancy Penalty.

In his answers, the Minister included the following information:

  • The number of applicants on the housing waiting list for greater west Belfast stood at 3,379. 
  • The latest fuel poverty figures (from the 2011 house condition survey) show that 42% of households across Northern Ireland are in fuel poverty.
  • The Housing Executive estimates that there are 9,800 properties that require upgrading from single glazing or partial double glazing to full double glazing.
  • As part of the boiler replacement scheme 1,800 separate installers have carried out installation work.
