Assembly Commission member, Leslie Cree outlined the measures being taken by the Assembly Commission in making Parliament Buildings inclusive for all communities during Oral Questions to the Commission. A number of schemes and projects such as the autism initiative, the disability action plan, gender equality research, Assembly Community Connect and the good relations action plan have all been put in place to compliment the Commission’s 2012-2016 equality scheme to make sure Parliament Buildings a welcoming environment for all.

Judith Cochrane also explained how disabled access to Parliament Buildings has been improved in the last few years to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act 1995. Alterations have been made inside and outside the building to make sure that the building is accessible to all. In November 2012, the Commission became the first organisation to receive the National Autistic Society autism access award.

Members of the Commission also answered questions on the carbon footprint of Parliament Buildings, the Gender Action Plan, upcoming centenary celebrations and school visits.
