Justice Committee to hear from the Lord Chief Justice

The Justice Committee will be briefed by the Lord Chief Justice at its meeting on Wednesday, 4 June. Among the issues that the Lord Chief Justice will talk about are the Judicial appointments process, lenient sentencing for animal cruelty cases; work being taken forward by the Lord Chief Justice regarding consistency in sentencing; and sentencing in relation to attacks on the elderly.

The Committee will also begin its clause by clause consideration of the Legal Aid and Coroners' Courts Bill and consider the Department of Justice Savings Delivery Plans and Financial Pressures. .
