Education Committee to be briefed on Access to Health Services for School Children

Synopsis: As part of its ongoing consideration of joined-up Health and Education provision, the Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Education will receive briefings from the Public Health Agency; Health and Social Care Board; the Department of Education and Education and Library Board representatives on the provision of health services for school children.

As part of its ongoing consideration of joined-up Health and Education provision, the Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Education will receive briefings from the Public Health Agency; Health and Social Care Board; the Department of Education and Education and Library Board representatives on the provision of health services for school children.

The Committee is following up on cross-departmental reviews of services including: occupational therapy; orthoptic provision and other multi-disciplinary services including psychology support.  The Committee’s focus will be on improving the efficiency of the special educational need (SEN) statementing process – the process by which children gain access to educational and other support in school – and more effective inclusion for children with learning difficulties.
