Committee to Review Controversial Area Plans for Schools

The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Education will receive a briefing at tomorrow’s Committee meeting from all 5 Education and Library Boards and the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools on the viability audit/area planning process for post-primary schools. 

The ‘Viability Audit/Area Planning’ process concerns post primary schools which have been found, by the Department of Education, to be suffering from stress in terms of educational results, financial management or in pupil numbers.

Witnesses for the briefing include: Mr Jim Clarke, Chief Executive, Council for Catholic Maintained Schools; Mr Gavin Boyd, Interim Chief Executive of CCEA, Council for the Curriculum Examinations and Assessment; Mr Gregory Butler, Chief Executive, South Eastern Education and Library Board; Mr Mike Donaghy, Head of Development and Support Services, South Education and Library Board; and Dr Clare Mangan, Acting Chief Executive, Western Education and Library Board.
