Assembly Committee attend Oireachtas meeting with European Commissioner

Members of the NI Assembly Committee for Agriculture and Rural Development have accepted an invitation from the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Communications, Natural Resources and Agriculture to attend a meeting on reforming the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

During the meeting Dacien Ciolos, the European Commissioner for Agriculture, will address the Oireachtas Joint Committee on the issue of CAP Reform.

Background

CAP reform is a priority for the Assembly Committee and it recently submitted evidence to a Westminster Committee Inquiry on the issue.  The UK government is negotiating CAP reform proposals with the European Commission on behalf of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.  The Assembly Committee is seeking to influence the negotiations to achieve the best possible outcome for Northern Ireland and is therefore very interested to hear the views of Dacien Ciolos.

The Assembly Committee and the Oireachtas Joint Committee met previously in November 2011, when they agreed to work closely on issues of common interest.
