Currently, the contaminants in food legislation is set by the EU and is implemented in the UK by statutory instruments. The Contaminants in Food (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 (the instrument) fixes inoperabilities in the retained EU legislation on contaminants in food so that it will continue to be applicable as domestic law and ensure continued safety of food after the UK has left the EU.
