This instrument updates operability amendments made by three other Northern Ireland European Union (EU) Exit instruments and amends one piece of Northern Ireland primary legislation to correct deficiencies, arising as a result of the UK’s exit from the EU, in current legislation in Northern Ireland that transposes Article 16 of Directive 2008/98/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 November 2008 on waste (“the Waste Framework Directive”). It amends:

• The Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997.
• The Waste (Miscellaneous Amendments) (Northern Ireland) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019.
• The Environment (Miscellaneous Amendments) (Northern Ireland) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019.
• The Environmental Protection (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019.
