Nutrient Action Programme Event, on 13 November 2025

On November 13, 2025, the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) and the Committee for Agriculture Environment and Rural Affairs held an informal stakeholder event regarding the proposed Nutrients Action Programme (NAP).

Hosted at the Stormont Hotel in Belfast, the gathering provided a platform for representatives from farming unions, the agri-food industry, and environmental organizations to share their perspectives. Discussions were central to the DAERA public consultation on future NAP regulations. Key topics of concern and debate included:

  • Fairness & Farm Viability: Agricultural stakeholders expressed the need to ensure proposed nutrient limits and environmental measures do not disproportionately burden family farms or hinder productivity.
  • Water Quality Measures: The event served as a forum to discuss evidence-based measures aimed at improving waterway health and reducing nutrient run-off.

Next Steps: The Committee for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs collected stakeholder feedback to inform their ongoing scrutiny of the policy
