Audit Committee

Synopsis: The Committee has responsibility for agreeing with the Comptroller and Auditor General and the Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman, respectively, an estimate of how much resources the Northern Ireland Audit Office (NIAO) and the Office of the Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman (NIPSO) should receive for each financial year and for laying the estimates before the Assembly. The Committee also has responsibility for scrutinising and reporting to the Assembly on the Northern Ireland Assembly Commission’s (NIAC) budget. The Committee fulfils these roles in place of the Department of Finance in recognition of the independence of the NIAO, NIPSO and NIAC.
