The meeting commenced at 1.20 pm.
1. INTRODUCTIONS
The Convenor welcomed members to the first meeting of the sub-Committee and outlined the format of the meeting.
2. EVIDENCE SESSIONS
The following witnesses were called and examined:
- Ms Linda Devlin, Assembly Section, Office of the First and Deputy First Minister and Mr Tom Watson, Machinery of Government Division, Office of the First and Deputy First Minister;
- Professor Stephen Livingstone, School of Law, Queen's University of Belfast
The meeting went into closed session at 2:45 pm.
3. ASSEMBLY LEGAL ADVISER PRESENTATION
The sub-Committee received a presentation from an Assembly legal adviser on the proposals contained in written evidence from the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission.
4. ANY OTHER BUSINESS
There was no further business.
5. DATE, TIME AND VENUE OF NEXT MEETING
It was agreed that the next meeting of the sub-Committee would be held on Wednesday 7 November 2001 in Room 152 Parliament Buildings at 3:00 pm, to take evidence from Professor Brice Dickson, Chief Commissioner of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and from Mr Francie Molloy MLA Chairperson of the Committee for Finance and Personnel.
The next full meeting of the Committee on Procedures will be held on Wednesday 28 November 2001 in Room 152 Parliament Building at 3.00 pm.
The meeting adjourned at 3.40 pm.
