The meeting commenced at 4.30 pm.

Apologies were received from Nuala McAllister MLA and Colin McGrath MLA.

2. DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST

No interests were declared by Members.

3. PROPOSED TEXT FOR THE MEMORIAL PLAQUE TO VICTIMS OF HISTORICAL INSTITUTIONAL ABUSE

Robin Ramsey presented a paper on the Correspondence from the Executive Office with Proposed Text for the Memorial Plaque to Victims of Historical Institutional Abuse.

Mr Ramsey asked the Assembly Commission to note that further correspondence from the First Minister (FM) and deputy First Minister (dFM) had been received on 8 October 2025, setting out text for the plaque as agreed with victims and survivors and their representatives.

Mr Ramsey noted that Colin McGrath had provided his approval prior to the meeting. Members confirmed they were content with the proposed wording.

The Speaker advised that he would inform FM and dFM that the proposed text for the plaque had been agreed by the Assembly Commission.  

Mr Ramsey informed Members that the Speaker’s Office had begun initial discussions with TEO in relation to the Speaker hosting an unveiling event in conjunction with FM and dFM and that Assembly Commission Members would be invited.
