Speaker welcomes public to Assembly Women's Week events

The Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Mitchel McLaughlin MLA, is looking forward to welcoming members of the public to the Assembly’s events for its first Women’s Week programme, which will begin on 7 March and continue throughout the week.

Speaker McLaughlin recognises role of Royal British Legion

Mitchel McLaughlin MLA, Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, tonight held a reception in Parliament Buildings for the Royal British Legion. The reception was attended by around 150 members of the Legion and MLAs.

Committee Stresses Need for Sustainable Drainage to Stop Flooding

The Assembly Committee for Regional Development visited three sites today to see, at first-hand, a number of projects aimed at alleviating flooding. The sites, developed by Transport NI and NI Water, were at College Park Avenue in Belfast; Green Road, Conlig; and Carrowreagh in Dundonald.

Northern Ireland Events Company

The Public Accounts Committee, which has published its report today into the now defunct Northern Ireland Events Company (NIEC), has highlighted the appalling level of mismanagement and impropriety which led to a financial deficit of approximately £1.6 million.

Joint Statement from the NI Assembly and the Independent Financial Review Panel

The Northern Ireland Assembly Commission and the Independent Financial Review Panel share the aim of ensuring that the system of financial support for MLAs is transparent and robust and allows elected Members to work effectively on behalf of their constituents.

Flood Prevention is Key Says Agriculture Committee

The Committee for Agriculture and Rural Development today visited Toome to meet representatives from Rivers Agency and view the sluice gates which control the water levels in Lough Neagh.

Statement from the Assembly Commission

The Assembly Commission met today and restated its continuing commitment to a strong and independent mechanism to deal with the payment of MLAs' expenses to ensure the proper use of public funds by elected MLAs to serve their constituents.

Assembly Commission Meeting (Wednesday 17 February 2016)

The Speaker has called a meeting of the Assembly Commission tomorrow (Wed 17 February) to discuss issues raised in recent days regarding the expenses regime for Assembly Members and to agree further actions to address these concerns.

Committee Bill set to ease complaints process against public bodies

The Public Services Ombudsman Bill will strengthen people’s right of redress, where maladministration by public bodies causes injustice. The Bill, introduced by the Committee for the Office of the First Minister and deputy First Minister (OFMDFM), passed its Final Stage during yesterday’s (Wednesday) Plenary debate.
