Committee Urges Further and Higher Education Sectors to Respond to the Public Consultation on the Budget

Session: 2014/2015

Date: 28 November 2014

Reference: E&L 02/14/15

The Committee for Employment and Learning has urged the Further and Higher Education sectors to respond to the budget consultation process which is currently underway.

The call came after an informal meeting with the local universities and unions in which the impact of proposed budget cuts was discussed.

Chairperson of the Committee Robin Swann MLA said: “It’s very important for the Further and Higher Education sector to make their views on the budget known to the Department of Employment and Learning. We all understand that there are hard decisions to make, given the financial constraints. However, these proposed budget cuts will have far reaching consequences and it is important that all stakeholders have their views taken into account by the Department.

“The decisions that are made now will have a lasting effect on our economy and we must make sure that we get it right.”
