This weekend will see the Northern Ireland Assembly recognise and commemorate a number of important historical events.

On Monday 13 July, Parliament Buildings will be lit orange to mark the local 12th July celebrations.

The Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Mitchel McLaughlin MLA will also attend a number of events in Dublin this weekend to recognise and remember all those who gave their lives in both World Wars.

He will represent the Assembly at the Royal British Legion’s Annual Commemoration, Irish National War Memorial Gardens in Islandbridge and at the National Day of Commemoration Ceremony at the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham.

In an article published in today’s Newsletter, the Speaker addressed the challenges posed by upcoming commemorations and outlined his approach and commitment to acknowledge our shared history in a way which increases understanding and respect across all parts of our society.
