Synopsis: The Chairman of the Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Regional Development, Mr Jimmy Spratt MLA, has welcomed the announcement of a new parking tariff for town centres in the lead up to Christmas.

Session: 2013/2014

Date: 25 November 2013

Reference: CRD 03/13/14

The Chairman of the Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Regional Development, Mr Jimmy Spratt MLA, has welcomed the announcement of a new parking tariff for town centres in the lead up to Christmas.

Speaking after the Minister for Regional Development, Mr Danny Kennedy MLA, announced a new tariff of £1 for up to five hours parking, Mr Spratt said: "This is a welcome impetus for shoppers and traders in the lead up to Christmas and the New Year, as it will encourage more people into our hard-pressed town centres and bring additional and important trade for retailers at a critical time for them.

"The Committee is supportive of this and the announcement last week in respect of Christmas parking tariffs for Belfast, as every little helps consumers and retailers during this time of economic downturn."
