The Northern Ireland Assembly will host a ‘Get Involved’ event at Strabane Library on Friday 20 September. The event is part of the Assembly’s Community Connect (ACC) initiative and aims to help local community and voluntary sector groups to work more effectively with the Assembly and its Committees.

Chairperson of the Northern Ireland Assembly Community Connect Advisory Group, Sammy Douglas MLA said: “I am delighted that the Assembly is taking its ACC Initiative to West Tyrone. As Chairperson of the Initiative, I am committed to meeting and working with community and voluntary groups to help them to put their concerns directly to their local MLAs.

“The Assembly values the opportunity to meet with individuals, groups and organisations from right across Northern Ireland and, in doing so, learn more about the individual needs of all our local communities. This event will provide a valuable opportunity for MLAs to spend time with local organisations, getting to know them and the issues they face, and building valuable mutual relationships.”

The “Get Involved” event will include training workshops and presentations on the work of the Assembly. It will also provide advice on how groups can give evidence to Assembly Committees and contribute effectively to Committee inquiries.

As part of the event, local MLAs will be on hand to provide practical tips on working with the Assembly; participants will also have an opportunity to ask questions on the issues that affect local people, their organisations and their communities.
