The Assembly’s Health Committee agreed at its meeting today to take further evidence on the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service.

The Committee intend to ask the Minister for Health, Social Services and Public Safety to come before Members to answer questions in relation to the four reports on the NIFRS which he published on 16 October 2012.

Members also plan to question the Minister about what action he intends to take in the light of further allegations which have been made, and which he referred to in the Assembly during Question Time on Monday 5 November 2012.

In the interim the Committee will write to the Minister asking for the terms of reference for this further inquiry and details of who will conduct it.

The Committee agreed that it will also take evidence on all of these matters from the Chair of the Board, the Chief Executive and the Chief Fire Officer of the NIFRS.
