Assembly Committees take their work to the City of Culture

Six Northern Ireland Assembly Committees will be holding their meetings in the City of Culture on Wednesday, 12 June. The Committees will be meeting in a variety of venues, including the Magee campus of the University of Ulster, the new Ebrington Barracks venue and the North West Regional College.

Assembly Community Connect ‘Gets Involved’ in the City of Culture

The Northern Ireland Assembly will host a major event at Ebrington Barracks in Derry~Londonderry on Friday 7 June. The event is part of the Assembly’s new Community Connect initiative which helps local community and voluntary sector groups to work more effectively with the Assembly and its Committees.

Speaker Hosts Lecture on Perspective on Female Suffrage

The Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Mr William Hay MLA, hosted an event in Parliament Buildings this evening as part of the “Perspectives On…” series agreed by the Assembly Commission to mark the decade of centenaries. The event, entitled ‘Perspectives on Female Suffrage’, featured a lecture by Dr Margaret Ward, author of women’s history.

Answers Needed for Electricity Price Hike, Says Committee

Following its meeting today, the Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Enterprise, Trade and Investment agreed to press for information from Power NI and the Northern Ireland Authority for Utility Regulation (NIAUR) for the details and reasons for Power NI’s recently announced electricity price increase. The Committee will also hear from Manufacturing NI on the potential effects of the price increase to businesses.

Committee Visits Ballymena to See Town Centre Regeneration

The Assembly’s Committee for Social Development today visited Ballymena where they held their weekly meeting in the Town Hall. Following a briefing from Departmental officials on the work of the High Street Taskforce, the Committee received an update from Ballymena Council officials on the progress of their Business Improvement District (BID).

Committee vows to keep close watch on Transforming Your Care

The Assembly’s Health Committee has agreed that it will be looking closely at the implementation plans for Transforming Your Care (TYC). As part of this close scrutiny, the Committee has agreed to undertake a number of investigations into the ten key themes contained in TYC.

Invest NI Performance Must be Measured by Actual Outcomes

The measurement of Invest NI’s performance should be based on investment achieved and jobs created, rather than on promises by investors or the results anticipated at the start of projects. That’s the message from the Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee which today launched its report into the performance of Invest NI.
