Session: 2011/2012

Date: 13 June 2012

Reference: EDUC 04/11/12

The Northern Ireland Assembly Committee for Education has spent the last few weeks examining the Departmental Review of Special Education Needs and Inclusion. The Committee has welcomed its participation in the Review and in particular the opportunity to present its concerns to the Minister for Education, John O’Dowd MLA and Departmental Officials.

The Department consulted with a number of stakeholders, including the Committee and asked them to examine the Review and feedback any concerns.

Committee Chairperson, Mervyn Storey MLA said: “The Committee has spent time examining the Review and we appreciate the Minister coming to our meeting today, listening to our views and concerns, and taking them on board. It is vitally important to continue taking the views of all those concerned into consideration, and we thank the Minister and his officials for taking the time to attend the Committee on several occasions during this Review. We welcome this process of engagement and look forward to this continuing in the future.”
