Committee Meets with UFU Ahead of Key Meetings

Session: 2009/2010

Date: 30 September 2009

Reference: AGR 04/09/10

The Northern Ireland Assembly’s Committee for Agriculture and Rural Development has met with the President and Chief Executive of the Ulster Farmers Union in Brussels today.

The Chairperson to the Committee, Mr Ian Paisley Jnr MLA, said: “The Committee has a number of very important meetings in the European Parliament today where, among other matters, we will discuss ways of stabilising the dairy sector. It is important, therefore, that we take the views of the industry that we represent.

“The Union are in Brussels this week attending the Committee of Professional Agricultural Organisations (COPA) talks, so it was also a very appropriate time for us to give the Northern Ireland view in the European context.”

The Committee will be attending a number of meetings over a period of two days, including meeting with the three Northern Ireland MEPs and the European Parliament Agricultural Committee.
