Media Operational Notice

Letter from The Speaker to all Members regarding an earlier meeting of the Assembly under Standing Order 11

Session: Session currently unavailable

Date: 15 January 2024

To: All Assembly Members

15 January 2024

Having received a valid notice from over 30 Members, in accordance with Standing Order 11, that the Assembly should meet at a date earlier than that to which it stood adjourned, the Assembly is hereby summoned to meet on Wednesday 17 January 2024 at 12pm.

The purpose for which the Assembly has been summoned is to elect a Speaker and Deputy Speakers; to appoint a First Minister and deputy First Minister and all other Executive Ministers and to debate the following motion:

“That this Assembly endorses the demand for fair pay settlements for public sector workers; urges the DUP to respect the democratic outcome of the May 2022 Assembly election; and emphasises the pressing need to urgently reinstate the Executive to tackle the unprecedented challenges confronting citizens and our public services, particularly the immediate matter of public sector pay.”

I will be meeting with Party Whips at 11am on Tuesday 16 January to discuss the arrangements for the debate.

I remind Members that only the business submitted on the notice can be dealt with at this recall and if the Assembly is unable to elect a Speaker and Deputy Speakers, it cannot proceed to debate the motion.

Yours sincerely

ALEX MASKEY
SPEAKER
