Committee Stage - Welfare Reform Bill

The Welfare Reform Bill is part of the on-going process of welfare reform and modernisation of the benefit system.

The major proposal for reform is the introduction of a new benefit, to be known as universal credit, which will replace existing in and out of work benefits.

The Bill also makes provision for a new benefit, personal independence payment , which will replace disability living allowance.

The Committee for Social Development is responsible for the Committee Stage of the Bill. The Committee submitted a Call for Evidence which expired in October 2012. Below you will find more information on the progress of the Committee Stage:
