Public Service Pensions Bill

The Public Service Pensions Bill was formally introduced to the Northern Ireland Assembly on Monday, 17 June 2013 and received its Second Reading on Tuesday, 25 June 2013. The Bill was then referred to the Committee for Finance and Personnel for Committee Stage.

The Bill will introduce major changes to public service pensions in Northern Ireland, including the policy for a new career average revalued earnings (CARE) scheme model, with pension age linked to state pension age. The reforms will extend across public service schemes made for the following classes of public service employments: civil servants; devolved judiciary; local government workers; teachers; health service workers; fire and rescue service workers; and, members of the police service.
