The meeting opened in public session at 10.43am.

1. Apologies

2. Draft Minutes of Meetings held on 21 June 2012

The Committee agreed the minutes of 21 June 2012.

3. Matters Arising         

The Committee noted the response from the Department outlining budget projections based on a 2.5% inflationary rate.

The Committee noted the response from the Department providing an up to date position on three outstanding post project evaluations.

The Committee noted the revised timeline for the Regional Stadiums development project.

The meeting was suspended at 10.46am.

The meeting re-opened in public session at 10.46am.

Agreed: The Committee agreed to request from the Department a copy of the Ulster Scot’s Academy’s Work Programme, outlining its priorities for funding.        

Mrs Karen McKevitt joined the meeting at 10.48am.           

Agreed: The Committee agreed to write to RTÉ to request a briefing on coverage in Northern Ireland following digital switchover.

4. Briefing from Assembly Research and Information Services regarding the Committee Inquiry into Maximizing the Potential of the Creative Industries

The following official joined the meeting at 10.50am:

Assembly Researcher, Dr Dan Hull.

The official briefed the Committee.

Mr William Irwin took the Chair at 10.53am.

Ms Michelle McIlveen left the meeting at 10.53am.         

The official left the meeting at 10.58am.

5. Briefing from Digital Derry regarding the Committee Inquiry into Maximizing the Potential of the Creative Industries

The following official joined the meeting at 10.58am:

Digital Champion, Mr Mark Nagurski.

The official briefed the Committee.

Mr Oliver McMullan left the meeting at 11.07am.

Mr Oliver McMullan rejoined the meeting at 11.10am.

A question and answer session followed. 

Mr Cathál Ó hOisín left the meeting at 11.20am.

Mr Cathál Ó hOisín rejoined the meeting at 11.24am.

The official left the meeting at 11.26am.                 

6. Briefing from the Department of Education regarding the Committee Inquiry into Maximizing the Potential of the Creative Industries

The following officials joined the meeting at 11.31am:       

Director of Curriculum, Qualifications and Standards, Mr Adrian Arbuthnot;

Head of Curriculum Support Team, Ms Sharon Lawlor; and

Head of Curriculum Development Team, Mr Russell Welsh.

The officials briefed the Committee.

A question and answer session followed.

Mr Dominic Bradley joined the meeting at 11.42am.

Mr Oliver McMullan left the meeting at 11.43am.

Mr Oliver McMullan rejoined the meeting at 11.55am.

The officials left the meeting at 12.03pm.

7. Written briefing from Arts Council on progress of Community Arts Strategy 2013 to 2018

Agreed: The Committee agreed to schedule a briefing from the Arts Council on its draft Community Arts Strategy.

Mr Cathál Ó hOisín left the meeting at 12.04pm.

8. Correspondence

The Committee noted correspondence from the Committee for the Environment, enclosing the official report for a DOE briefing on Planning Policy Statement 6.

Agreed: The Committee agreed to forward the report from the Department of Finance and Personnel on Savings Delivery Plans; and seek clarification regarding issues around publication.

9. Chairperson’s Business

The Committee noted the date and time of the following:

  • Event to host the Irish Sport Stacking Team;
  • Meeting with Senators of the Czech Republic; and
  • Informal meeting with FASTA.

12. Forward Work Programme

The Committee noted the Forward Work Programme.

Agreed: The Committee agreed to start the meeting of 5 July 2012 at 10am.

13. Any other business

There was no other business.

14. Date and Time of Next Meeting          

The next meeting of the Committee for Culture, Arts and Leisure will take place on Thursday 05 July 2012 at 10.00am in Room 21, Parliament Buildings.

The Deputy Chairperson adjourned the meeting at 12.08pm.
