The meeting opened at 11.06 a.m. in public session.

11.07 am Mr Givan and Mr Hamilton joined the meeting

The Chairperson advised that, in the absence of John Simmons, the meeting would be clerked by Paul Gill.

2. Minutes of the last meeting.

Agreed: The Committee agreed the minutes of the Committee meeting held on Tuesday 25 October 2011.

3. Matters Arising

No matters were raised.

4. Review of the Initial Ministerial Provision in Relation to the Department of Justice and recommendations relating to the arrangements from 1 May 2012.

The Clerk briefed the Committee on the current position in relation to the Review.

The Committee considered Stakeholder responses to date.

11.18 am The meeting moved into closed session to consider legal advice.

Agreed: The Committee agreed that it will request further legal advice.

11.29 am The meeting moved into open session.

Agreed: The Committee agreed to defer taking a decision on its position until the following week to allow all submissions to be received and presented.

5. Review of Parts III and IV of the Northern Ireland Act

11.30 am Mr Givan, Mr Hamilton and Mr Sheehan left the meeting

The following representative from Assembly Research and Library Service joined the meeting:

The representative briefed the Committee on the issue of the length of the Assembly mandate.

This was followed by a question and answer session.
