The purpose of the Statutory Instrument is to ensure Northern Ireland legislation relating to regulated products listed below continues to operate effectively after the United Kingdom leaves the European Union: 

  • The Genetically Modified Food Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2004.
  • The Materials and Articles in Contact with Food Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012.
  • The Food Additives, Flavourings, Enzymes and Extraction Solvents Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2013.
  • The Novel Foods Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2017. 


The SI makes a number of minor and technical amendments to these regulations to deal with deficiencies arising from the withdrawal of the UK from the EU.
